Ms Shannon Ruddell

Ms Shannon Ruddell

Physiotherapist

LYMPHOEDEMA & CANCER REHABILITATION PHYSIOTHERAPIST Shannon graduated from AUT with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy in 2010, completing rotations across community rehabilitation, neurology, orthopaedics, general medicine, critical care, and oncology and haematology – a broad foundation that gives her a deep understanding of the entire cancer journey. After taking a senior oncology and haematology physiotherapy role in 2013, Shannon pursued specialist lymphoedema training at Brisbane Women’s and Children’s Hospital before honing her expertise at the world-renowned Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital in London for three and a half years. On returning to New Zealand, she held senior and advanced lymphoedema roles at Auckland District Health Board and co-founded Auckland Lymphoedema and Rehabilitation in 2020. Her clinical interests include lymphoedema prevention, and head and neck and breast cancer rehabilitation. Shannon’s passion for cancer care is deeply personal – witnessing the impact of rehabilitation on her Nanna Lois during her cancer diagnosis showed her firsthand how transformative supportive care can be. She feels privileged to help people rebuild fitness, strength, and confidence throughout their cancer journey, and finds equal reward in educating and empowering those living with lymphoedema and lipoedema to self-manage their condition with confidence long term. Born and raised in Auckland, Shannon has since lived in Rarotonga, the UK, and rural Australia before recently settling in Canterbury with her partner and young family. With three children aged three and under, she’s a self-proclaimed master juggler. Outside the clinic she enjoys running, cycling, snowboarding, hiking, pottery, and tending to her rose garden. If she were an animal, she’d be a lion – bold, warm, protective, and unafraid to speak up. View details »
