Miss Claudia McKenna

Miss Claudia McKenna

Physiotherapist

Claudia joined Active Health Waikato in January 2021 after completing her degree with First Class Honours at the University of Otago. She has developed a special interest in sports physiotherapy, particularly focusing on ankle and knee injury rehabilitation, with a particular passion for working with netballers and rowers. Her treatment approach combines exercise-based therapy with manual therapy techniques, tailoring each plan to meet her patients' individual needs and goals. Claudia's journey into physiotherapy began with a genuine love for physical activity and a fascination with biomechanics and anatomy during her school years. A personal experience working with a physiotherapist during her own high school injury sparked her passion for helping others through their recovery journeys, inspiring her dedication to getting people back to doing what they love. Her expertise has been recognised through various team appointments, including physiotherapy support for the 2021 North vs South Black Sticks tournament, the 2022 Hamilton City Netball Centre U18 Representative Team, the 2023 Waikato Hockey NHC Women's Team, and most recently as primary care physiotherapist for the WBOP Matarau team in the 2025 Synergy Hair Netball League. Originally from Christchurch, Claudia spent four years in Dunedin during her studies before making the move north to Hamilton, where she's been thoroughly enjoying life in the Waikato. Growing up in the city and eastern suburbs of Christchurch, there's even a fun family connection to Active Health – her parents were actually patients at the original QE2 clinic before the earthquakes, making her journey with the practice feel like coming full circle. When she's not helping patients recover, Claudia has developed quite the appreciation for sushi – particularly from Cambridge Sushi, which she jokes is dangerously close to the Thomas Road clinic!
